A Marriage in Every State

New York City-based artist Maria Yoon performed a wedding ceremony with help from Emil Churchin, who stood in as her momentary husband, at Kincaid Park on Saturday, December 26, 2009. This was the 43rd "wedding" Yoon has participated in - each in a different state - as part of her project called "Maria the Korean Bride." Yoon said the performance project began as a way to rebel against the expectations of her parents, but evolved over 8 years to be a study into how Americans view marriage and love. The project will be edited into a documentary, she says.
