Madeline Knowlton took pictures of a sow and three cubs as they explored her house Thursday and Saturday. Saturday morning they tried to get in through a door that they'd gotten in two days before. The sow did serious damage to the door before APD officers shot her and two of the cubs.
A raft carrying nine people overturned in Six Mile Creek Sunday. Commercial rafters from Chugach Outdoor Center had boats on the river that helped rescue the swamped boaters.
On Tuesday evening, July 28, the rain let up long enough to allow for mostly dry hiking in the Rendezvous Ridge area. Clouds drifted and swirled in that portion of Chugach State Park. The Rendezvous Ridge Loop Trail takes hikers around the slopes of the Arctic Valley Ski Area and to the 4,101-foot Rendezvous Peak.
The muddy banks of Fish Creek off Knik-Goose Bay Road were flooded with personal use dipnetters on Saturday, July 24, 2010, that were opened for the first time in several years by an ADF&G emergency order to harvest the returning sockeye salmon after a projected escapement goal of 70,000 fish was reached.
