West wins Alaska Airlines Classic, beating reigning champ

Tournament MVP Devin Bookert scored 29 points to lead West to an 89-78 win over Christian Life (Humble, Texas) in the championship game of the Alaska Airlines Classic at West.

The victory avenged a 76-69 loss to Christian Life in the championship game last year.

The Eagles trailed 67-63 after three quarters then outscored Christian Life 26-11 in the fourth, making 13 of 19 free throws in the quarter.

Tom Feeney added 24 points for the Eagles.

Leslee Smith led Christian Life with 19 points.

The Wasilla's boys basketball team salvaged a seventh-place showing at the Alaska Airlines Classic with a 60-53 win over East on Saturday at West High.

Cody Pfeifer had 23 points to lead Wasilla, which also got 12 from Braydon Kuiper and Conner Devine.

Anthony Banks scored 16 to pace the T-birds, who finished 0-3 in the tournament.

The Grace Chrisitan boys raced out to a 43-16 lead after the first half and never slowed down, burying Seward 65-28 in Southcentral Conference basketball action Saturday at Grace.

Ron Fancher scored 19 points to lead four Grace players in double figures. Caleb Davis and Grant Mathews each scored 14 for the Grizzlies, who also got 12 from Andrew Bouman.

Andrew Buchanan scored 16 for the Seahawks.

Daniel Brandon led ACS with 14 points. Aaron Richwine added 11 and Gus Simmers had 10.
