Two Anchorage-based air-cargo businesses are involved in the response to the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. Lynden Air Cargo is using its L100-30 aircraft to fly rescue vehicles, portable kitchens and other relief supplies to Port-au-Prince, the company said. Within hours of the Jan. 12 earthquake, Lynden Air pilots were flying relief missions out of Washington, D.C., and they continue to pick up more supplies from U.S. points to deliver in support of humanitarian rescue efforts, said Judy McKenzie, president.
Anchorage-based Lynden operates six Hercules aircraft around the world specializing in remote site services, she said.
A Northern Air Cargo Boeing 737 jet landed in Port-au-Prince Monday afternoon. The aircraft is based in Texas, said Margot Wiegele, spokeswoman. The company anticipates flying many more flights in the coming weeks.
