With 11 huskies in harness, the Denali Park musher reached the Sterling Highway finish line at 1:36 p.m. Sunday. The victory was worth $7,500 and was King's second in as many races this season. He also won the Copper Basin 300.
Cim Smyth, the defending champion from Big Lake, was 37 minutes behind King with a seven-dog team. He claimed the $5,000 second-place prize.
Jonrowe, of Willow, arrived 20 minutes later to claim third place and $3,750.
King, a four-time Iditarod champion, led for most of the race, which started Saturday at 11 a.m. and included a mandatory eight-hour layover at the Clam Shell Lodge halfway point. He was the first to reach the lodge Saturday night and he hit the trail this morning with an 18-minute edge over Smyth and a 25-minute edge over Jonrowe.
On Saturday, Paul Gebhardt won the Tustumena 100 and Rebecca Ruzicka won the junior race.
