Allen, 47, was shot five times on a Fairview residential street while sitting in his patrol car early Jan. 9 and has been recovering in the hospital since. In a recent interview from his hospital bed, Allen said he expected his recovery to extend well beyond his stay at the hospital, but that he planned to get back on duty eventually.
Police say they think Allen was targeted in the drive-by shooting solely because he is a police officer and that the shooter appeared to have set out to execute a cop in what they have called an "ambush attack."
The Anchorage Police Department Employees Association started a reward fund to catch the shooter that is now at $25,000.
The public can contribute to the Jason Allen Reward Fund or the Jason Allen Family Support Fund at any Key Bank branch. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 786-8860.
