Virtual enterprise garners first place for UAA students
A team of two students at the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy finished in first place in the fall 2009 Capstone Business Competition. Elena Reierson and Chelsey Homan beat 788 other teams from other universities in a competition on who can run the most profitable and productive company.
They earned the top position in the "cumulative profit" and "stock prices" categories, according to UAA.
The competition involved running a virtual company through a computer simulation, making hundreds of decisions in marketing, product research and development, production, human resources and finance, UAA said. Teams were evaluated on profits, cumulative profit, market share, return on equity, return on assets, return on sales and stock price, the university said.
Reierson and Homan were in professor Edward Forrest's marketing management course.
