FAIRBANKS -- The Tanana Chiefs Council says it needs the city of Fairbanks to approve a land swap so it can build a $75 million clinic.
The project manager for the Native corporation's new Chief Andrew Isaac Medical Center, David Mather, told the city council that time is running out. The TCC needs to acquire the land and meet several other requirements by May 7 to receive funds form the Indian Health Service. The proposed swap with Fairbanks Memorial Hospital would give the Tanana Chiefs Council 9 acres just north of the Big Dipper Ice Arena. The hospital would get 4 acres near the hospital. The TCC has been planning to build a new health center for three years.
