JUNEAU -- A 21-year-old University of Alaska Southeast student accused of raping his female roommate at their coed campus apartment last month pleaded not guilty Tuesday to five counts of sexual assault. The 21-year-old man from Arizona, Dominic Merrill, was indicted Friday and is held in the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on $25,000 bail.

The woman says she was raped Jan. 23 after they returned from drinking at a social gathering on campus.

Officials have said they are reviewing the coed housing policy but decided not to make any immediate changes that would disrupt studies.

In the coed rooms, each student has his or her own bedroom and they share a bathroom, kitchen and living area.
