Canada signals cooperation in Alaska border dispute

Link: Canwest News Service The Canadian government has made a surprise "nudge" toward resolution of an old territorial dispute involving the offshore border between Alaska and the Yukon. "Someone [in the Canadian government] has realized that this dispute is not going to go away and that -- as activity in the region increases -- it's going to become more difficult as time goes on," said Michael Byers of Vancouver, B.C., author of "Who Owns the Arctic?" U.S. and Canadian experts in Arctic geopolitics will soon be meeting in Vancouver, and the Beaufort Sea border dispute is expected to be a major topic.
