Side by side, bikers Peter Basinger of Anchorage and Jeff Oatley of Fairbanks pulled out of the Finger Lake checkpoint at 6:55 Monday night, 130 miles into the Iditarod Invitational. Fellow biker Jay Petervary followed 10 minutes later. The 350-mile winter ultramarathon continues over the Alaska Range and on to McGrath. Most racers stop there, but some continue on to Nome.
