Qualifying rounds will be held at 7 p.m. today at these two locations:
• Club Elixir to qualify one seat
• Amvets Post 9 in Wasilla to qualify three seats
The last-minute events are the result of planners getting off to a late start because of concerns about the legality of the tournament.
Organizers canceled the tournament after the state Department of Revenue, in response to a complaint, delivered an opinion saying the tournament, when held with a charity dinner as initially planned, would amount to illegal gambling.
Last week, organizers put the event back on the schedule after getting clarification that it would be legal without the dinner.
The main event -- the Alaska Hold'em Poker Tournament -- is set to begin 4 p.m. Saturday at the Egan Center. The winner gets a seat at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, worth about $10,000, and a winner's bracelet.
Rondy executive director Susan Duck said organizers are planning more qualifying tournaments but details haven't yet been set. They will be posted online at www.furrondy.net as they become available.
