Judge must appear for his DUI reprimand

An Anchorage Superior Court judge convicted of drunken driving in October must appear before the Alaska Supreme Court to be publicly reprimanded for the offense, the Supreme Court ordered this week. Judge Patrick McKay, who had a blood alcohol level of .157 when he was pulled over in August, and the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct have agreed on what discipline he should face, Thursday's order said.

The judge must appear before the court March 18 at 11:45 a.m. for the reprimand. In addition, he must continue alcohol treatment until his provider says he has completed what's necessary, and he must provide the Supreme Court and the Judicial Conduct Commission access to his treatment records, according to the order.

In October, McKay pleaded no contest to drunken driving and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation. He said at his sentencing hearing that he had already begun treatment.
