By 11: 45 p.m. Monday 23 mushers had reached the Rohn checkpoint but only Paul Gebhardt went on through, heading down the South Fork of the Kuskokwim River at 8:32 p.m., the current leader in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Seven mushers led by Sebastian Schneulle had reached the Rohn checkpoint between 6:52 and 8:31 p.m.

After descending the north slope of the Alaska Range through the sometimes treacherous Dalzell Gorge many seemed to be resting at the checkpoint before moving on.

Ahead of them the trail will follow the South Fork, notorious for its overflow. It's 25 miles to Farewell where they will leave the river and head out across 50-plus miles of the Farewell Burn which reportedly has little snow on it this year.
