A sixth musher scratched from the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog race Wednesday morning when Willow rookie Kathleen Frederick bowed out.

Frederick, 58, told race officials that gear and equipment problems combined to force her from the race at Rohn, about 350 miles into the 1,000-mile marathon. She had 14 dogs left in her team.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Penn., Frederick moved to Juneau in 2002 and has practiced law there and in the Mat-Su Borough. She's a member of the Alaska Public Offices Commission.

Frederick operates a small kennel called Shameless Huskies Kennel.
