Two men are dead and a woman hospitalized after gunfire broke as the three sat in a vehicle parked in South Anchorage late Thursday night, according to police.

One man, 34-year-old Bikendra Oja, died at the scene in the Independence Park neighborhood off Abbott Road. The second man, Dale Marion Mills, 26, died later at a hospital, police said.

A third occupant of the vehicle, Ashley Jenkinson, 26, suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, said police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers. Jenkinson was being treated at a hospital. Lammers said she believe the injuries to be to a hand and a leg.

Police got a 911 call about 11:55 p.m. reporting a shooting with three victims and a woman was screaming in the background, Lammers said. The gunfire appeared to have erupted inside the small car parked near Congress Circle and Independence Drive, according to police.

Police recovered at least one gun from the vehicle, and it appeared all involved parties were accounted for, Lammers said. "There's no reason for (detectives) to believe that there was anybody else involved," Lammers said.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting or who shot whom, she said. Detectives talked to Jenkinson after she underwent surgery Friday, Lammers said.

Lammers said police planned to forward the case to the district attorney's office for review.

According to court records, Oja was charged in Kodiak in two felony drug cases in 2005 and 2006. Mills was charged in Anchorage in 2003 with misdemeanor assault and criminal trespass, court records say. Jenkinson has a history of minor offenses, according to court records.

The homicides are the third and fourth of the year in Anchorage, Lammers said.
