Anchorage resident John Jeffrey Bennett, 54, was discovered after the crew of an Alaska Railroad train spotted the wreckage in the railroad right-of-way around 8 a.m. Sunday at Mile 138.8, in the Eklutna-Birchwood area, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

It appeared the airplane crashed sometime Saturday and was not found until the next day, according to the NTSB.

The airplane, an ultralight Antares MA-32, was an experimental, home-built craft, the NTSB said. It wasn't clear where Bennett was going at the time of the crash.

Crash investigators were on the scene Monday trying to remove the wreckage for an examination.
