The House Finance Committee is expected to consider amendments today; from there, the bill, HB 36, would go to the full House.

Lead sponsor Rep. Kyle Johansen said the bill has been years in the making and he's confident of its chances of passage.

The Ketchikan Republican says the current process has flaws. The bill would require disclosure of those contributing at least $500 to groups created to get an initiative on the ballot.

Activist Tim June says he supports transparency but he warned against making the process too onerous for those trying to advance initiatives. June is with ballot group Alaskans for Clean Elections but testified on his own behalf Monday.
