EKLUTNA -- Alaska Railroad officials have identified the pilot killed when his home-built airplane crashed near Eklutna last weekend.
Anchorage resident John Jeffrey Bennett, 54, was discovered after the crew of an Alaska Railroad train spotted the wreckage in the railroad right of way around 8 a.m. Sunday at Mile 138.8, in the Eklutna-Birchwood area, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. It appeared the airplane had crashed Saturday, according to the NTSB. The ultralight Antares MA-32 was an experimental, home-built craft, the NTSB said. It wasn't clear where Bennett was going at the time of the crash.
