Gov. Sean Parnell is asking the Legislature for $76 million to finish a $93 million, 84,400-square-foot lab in Anchorage. The new lab would replace an 18,000-square-foot lab built in 1986. Sen. Tom Wagoner, a Kenai Republican, acknowledges the need for expansion but says what began as a department request in 2005 for a 6,000-square-foot expansion has become too much. Wagoner drew his arguments and information from a 35-page report released this week by the Alaska Policy Forum, a conservative think tank in Anchorage. Wagoner spoke Thursday during his caucus' weekly press conference.
