The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that 26-year-old Schaeffer Cox was arrested late Wednesday while monitoring the scene of a police search.

Cox is part of a "Liberty Bell" network that sends out mass notifications when someone believes their rights are being violated. The owner of the home had complained that police were making an unauthorized search.

Police said Cox, wearing a bulletproof vest when contacted, failed to tell them he was carrying a concealed pistol. He was charged with misdemeanor weapons misconduct.

Cox told the newspaper he questions the constitutionality of the notification requirement, but he did comply with it.

The News-Miner reports Cox pleaded guilty March 5 to a reduced charge of misdemeanor reckless endangerment in connection with an alleged choking attack on his wife last month. He originally was charged with felony assault.
