He was an early expert in GIS implementations, his work in Alaska includes a large study of the proposed gas pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Chicago. This project generated thousands of mapping sheets for various proposed pipeline routes up to 20 times faster than previously available technologies. Pearson has also assisted with some of the first production implementations of the technology in the state, including the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, BP Exploration, the Alaska Railroad Corp. and the Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility.
