Sullivan has been in the post since last summer, following his appointment in the waning days of then-Gov. Sarah Palin's administration.

In confirmation hearings, as on the floor Friday, Sullivan won high praise from lawmakers. But he's also faced criticism from some during the process, on issues including the state's involvement in litigation -- particularly in a tribal sovereignty case -- and its handling of an accounting firm's loss of personal data for 77,000 current and former public employees.

Rep. Bob Herron, D-Bethel, said he's talked with Sullivan about concerns he's had and considers him the right person for the job. The final vote was 58-0.
