Observations of the lava dome from the air on Thursday and Friday found no significant changes and no signs of instability. Scattered patches of discolored snow and ice might be windblown leftovers from Redoubt's long eruption in 2009, or it could be debris carried over the rim through vigorous gas emissions.
The level of magmatic gas emission measured last week was below that in December 2009, "a trend expected for a slowly cooling and degassing lava dome," the observatory said.
The 10,197-foot volcano's eruptions in early 2009 disrupted air travel, produced mudflows that partially flooded the Drift River Oil Terminal, and dusted Anchorage and other communities with ash.
