Crews with dump trucks and front-end loaders planned to work on clearing the debris from the road following the slide about 2:30 p.m. along the highway south of the Capt. William Moore Bridge. It was not immediately known how much debris covered the roadway, DOT said.

The Transportation Department expected the highway to be closed until midnight.

The Klondike Highway links Skagway to the Alaska Highway.
