The MV Susitna, the new icebreaking ferry that will provide passenger service across Knik Arm between Mat-Su and Anchorage, was launched Wednesday by the Ketchikan company that's building it. It still needs to be outfitted and tested before being put into service in the fall by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Read reports of the launch at the borough's website and MarineLog.com. UPDATE: The Ketchikan Daily News reported on the launch Saturday in an article contribued to by the Mat-Su Frontiersman. Navy trials will take up most of the testing period, the article says. "They're very extensive (tests), and one of them includes putting that A1-M1 tank on that baby and then putting it on a beach and landing it," Mat-Su Borough Manager John Duffy said.
