I'm back in my happy land of Argentina, this time with the 2007 Graffigna Centenario Malbec. This one seems drier than most. It's more refined and doesn't cater to the world's recent fruit bomb theory. The wine is opaque with a red purple rim. Initial aromas are dark, humid, smoky black fruits with spicy herbed stem and cigar. A bit more airing yields layers of wood, liquorice and sweet berry -- in a word, complex. Mouth entry is filling and textured. Cherry and spicy blueberry offer pleasing resistance to the firm tannins. Medium full against the pallet, The wine is lengthy and nicely fleshed out. Serve with roasts of beef or lamb. Costs about $14.
