Musher greets Mackey in Jamaica

Published: May 6, 2010

Lance Mackey, fresh from his fourth consecutive win in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, is visiting Jamaica with his family.

Newton Marshall, the race's first finisher from Jamaica, greeted Mackey when the Fairbanks champion arrived in Ocho Rios on Wednesday.

Mackey mentored Marshall for the 2010 running of the 1,000-mile race.

Marshall is a member of the Jamaica Dogsled Team, which also trains Jamaica dogs to pull dune buggies for "sled dog" tours in addition to its competitive endeavors. In Jamaica, Marshall works as a dog-tour guide.

The Jamaica Dogsled Team says Mackey was invited to the Caribbean island in appreciation for his mentorship.
