Lance Mackey on TV as 'The Dogfather' tonight

May 17, 2010

Four-time Iditarod champion Lance Mackey will get a little national shine tonight, but you'll have to have premium cable to catch it.

"Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" will profile the musher in a segment entitled "The Dogfather" that airs at 6 p.m. on HBO (GCI cable Channel 401). Mackey "might be the toughest and most dominating athlete you've never heard of, unless you live in Alaska," according to an HBO Sports press release.

So the Emmy-winning show sent correspondent Jon Frankel "to see this legendary tough guy in action on the trail and at his Comeback Kennels, aptly named for a man who rescues stray dogs and has himself battled alcohol, hard drugs and cancer," according to the press release.
