The Service girls soccer team begins defense of its title today at Dimond at 4 p.m. when they take on eighth-seeded Bartlett (0-13-1). Service earned the top seed with a 13-0-1 regular-season record. The Cougars haven't lost a match since the 2008 CIC championship match against South, making it 39 straight matches without a loss.
Also playing at Dimond today are: No. 2 South (11-2-1) versus No. 7 East (2-11-1) at 6 p.m., No. 3 Dimond (10-3-1) versus No. 6 West (4-8-2) at 8 p.m., and No. 4 Chugiak (6-7-1) will play No. 5 Eagle River (5-7-2) at Chugiak at 5 p.m.
In boys soccer, South owns three of the past four CIC titles, including the 2009 championship.
Dimond (9-0-5) earned the top seed and starts the tournament today against No. 8 Bartlett (0-13-1) at Anchorage Football Stadium at 4 p.m., followed by No. 2 South (9-0-5) versus No. 7 Eagle River (1-11-2) at 6 p.m. and No. 3 Service (8-2-4) versus No. 6 East (5-6-3) at 8 p.m. Fourth ranked Chugiak (7-6-1) will take on No. 5 West (6-7-1) at Chugiak at 7 p.m.
Prep baseball begins its CIC round-robin tournament today with a game between eighth seed East (0-7) and fifth seed Chugiak (3-4) at Mulcahy Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Seventh seed Bartlett (1-6) will play sixth seed Eagle River (3-4) at Chad Bax field at 6:30 p.m.
The top two teams from this week's CIC tournament will earn the right to play for the state championship June 3-5 at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
In track and field, the Dimond girls and Bartlett boys teams are both two-time defending state champions. The ASAA state meet runs Friday and Saturday.
