BOATING
Six-Mile Fest expanded
WHEN: Saturday
WHERE: Six-Mile Creek; festival is 3.4 miles down the cut-off from Seward Highway to Hope.
WHAT: One of Alaska's biggest whitewater festivals. Includes a 1 p.m. mass-start race through the biggest three rapids in the first canyon; a 2 p.m. pack raft mass start race that is new this year; a 2:30 p.m. inflatable race for any inflatable craft that, according to organizers, "you're crazy enough to ride"; 4 p.m. rodeo; 6 p.m. bonfire party with music, raffle and free beer and hot dogs.

NATIONAL PARKS
Apply to drive Denali road
WHEN: Entries must be submitted electronically or mailed by June 30.
WHERE: Denali National Park
WHAT: Annual Denali Road lottery takes place Sept. 17-20, with 400 private Alaska vehicles per day are allowed to drive the park road. Entries into lottery due this month.
COST: $10, non-refundable fee with each entry, plus winners pay a $25 permit fee the day they drive as well as the park entrance fee all users pay.

RUNNING
Homer News Spit Run
WHEN: 10 a.m., June 26
WHERE: Homer
WHAT: A 10-kilometer run that on flat course ends near Lands End Resort on the Homer Spit. Post-race party on the deck of Land's End resort includes a no-host barbecue and music. Prizes awarded for the fastest man and woman. A free shuttle allows runners to return to Homer High to pick up cars.
COST: $5 fee for those registering after 5 p.m. on June 23.
