AROUND THE HORN

-The Heroes of the Diamond, a team of all-stars representing all branches of the military, took down the Anchorage Bucs 6-3 at Mulcahy Stadium on Sunday behind a game-opening home run by Alan Brace and a complete game four-hitter on the mound from Frank Cervantes. Cervantes struck out four and gave up two earned runs over seven innings. Garret Jenner added a two-RBI double to the Heroes cause.

-- The Athletes in Action Fire jumped to a five-run lead in the top of the first and didn't look back to top the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on Sunday at Mulcahy Stadium. AIA's Kellen Bozeman started outburst with a 2 RBI double to right and catcher Marc Schoch followed with single to right to drive in two more.

Schoch drove in three runs total and Bozeman finished with three hits and two runs scored.

Fire starter Matt Netherton allowed three hits and one run over four innings to pick up the win.

-- The Fairbanks Goldpanners, 0-2 entering Sunday, swept a doubleheader from the Peninsula Oilers at Oiler Park in Kenai to move to .500 on the season.

In the opener, the Panners came from behind with a two-run sixth to take home a 4-3 win. Mike Tauchman singled home Evan Simonitsch, who started the rally with an RBI single of his own.

In the second game, the Panners bounced back from an early one-run deficit to grab a 3-1 victory. In the second inning, Fairbanks capitalized on a wild pitch and a passed ball by the Oilers to score two runs and take the lead for good. Kevin Roundtree scored a run and added an RBI single. Zach Vawter-Scoggins scattered five hits and went the distance on the mound for the Panners.

The losses dropped the Oilers undefeated through their first four games of the season.
