• The Athletes in Action Fire jumped out to an early six-run lead Saturday, but the Mat-Su Miners stormed back for an 8-7 win, taking the first game of a doubleheader in Fairbanks.

The Fire started the game with three straight singles and put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, then built a 6-1 lead through five innings.

The Miners' Andy Mee led off the sixth inning with a solo home run, igniting a five-run rally that made it 6-6, and Ryan Kaup drilled a two-run double in the top of the ninth to give the Miners their first lead at 8-6.

The Miners' Robert Benincasa pitched the last three innings for the win, and Reagan Moczygemba went 2 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

The Miners couldn't maintain the magic for the second game, losing 10-7 to the Fire in seven innings.

The Miners scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second inning, but the Fire bounced right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-2.

The Miners forged a 5-5 tie in the top of the third inning, but the Fire took the lead for good when they scored four in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from third baseman Colby Everett.

• A bizarre play in the seventh inning set up a 6-4 win for the Peninsula Oilers over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Oiler Park in Kenai.

With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning and runners on second and third, the Oilers' Garrett Wittels dropped a bunt. Tyler Grimes scampered home to score the go-ahead run from third base and Ryan Gebhart advanced to third. Then, after the play seemed to be over, Gebhart caught the Pilots napping and stole home to give the Oilers a two-run lead.

Chad Smith pitched the ninth for the save, and Jorge Marban pitched the seventh and eighth inning to pick up the win and improve to 4-0. Grimes was 1 for 3 with two runs and two stolen bases. Gebhart was 1 for 3 with a run and three stolen bases.
