AROUND THE HORN

• The Peninsula Oilers took advantage of three critical errors by the Anchorage Bucs, winning 5-1 at Mulcahy Stadium on Wednesday night.

With the Oilers leading 2-1 in the top of the eighth, the Bucs committed two errors, leading to three runs for the Oilers.

Bucs catcher Dominic Piazza made his second error of the night when he fielded a bunt and threw the ball over the third baseman's head, allowing a run to score on the play. Piazza's first error, another throwing error in the fourth inning, led to an Oiler run in that inning.

• The Fairbanks Goldpanners and Athletes in Action Fire split a doubleheader in Fairbanks on Wednesday.

The Fire took the first game 3-1, and the Panners won 2-1 in the second game.

The second game was scoreless until the Panners rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, then hung on for the win in the bottom of the inning.

Both games were seven-inning contests.
