An earthquake centered north of Palmer Thursday evening was felt throughout Anchorage but no immediate damage was reported.
The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center reported the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.1. The Alaska Earthquake Information Center, however, reported a magnitude of 4.87. It was centered about 50 miles northeast of Palmer and about 85 miles northeast of Anchorage. The quake hit at 8:57 p.m.
