Police say a 20-year-old woman stabbed two people in the first encounter, reported as an argument at 10:05 p.m. near Humpy's at 610 W. Sixth Ave.
Witnesses told police that Andrea Santoyo had been arguing with another woman, Jessica Fratis. Santoyo repeatedly stabbed Fratis in an alley behind the restaurant and bar, police say. She suffered wounds to her head, side and lower abdomen.
When a man named Miguel Slats tried to break up the fight, Santoyo stabbed him in the lower abdomen, police say. Both victims were hospitalized and are expected to survive, police say.
Lt. Dave Parker, a police spokesman, said he didn't know what the argument was about. Police later found Santoyo at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and arrested her. She's charged with two counts of first-degree assault and is being held on $10,000 bail.
Hours later, police responded to a separate fight near Fourth Avenue and C Street. Police say it's not clear what happened or who was involved, but they found three injured men at the scene:
• Billy Okpik was clutching his stomach and told police he'd been stabbed.
• Edward Koyuk may have been hit by a van and suffered what looked to be a broken ankle.
• Another man, who police did not identify, had been kicked in the face.
"Dispatch said the fella who was hit by the vehicle was apparently trying to cross the street to stop one of the assaults that was going on," Parker said. "That's when he was struck, but the vehicle ran."
The three were taken to local hospitals and are expected to survive. Nobody has been arrested in the fight.
