AROUND THE HORN

• The Fairbanks Goldpanners completed a five-game sweep of the Anchorage Glacier Pilots with two wins Wednesday in Fairbanks. The Goldpanners pulled out a 3-1 win in the first game and a 3-2 win in the second.

In the first game, the Goldpanners broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth when Jake Stewart hit a lead-off single, reached second on a throwing error, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a Derrick Chung double off the left field wall. Chung later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Sikorski for a 3-1 Goldpanners lead.

Kyle Brule struck out the side in the top of the seventh and final inning, earning the save. Derek Grieve pitched the sixth inning to earn the win.

In the second game, the Goldpanners stole nine bases in 10 attempts, Jarod Berggren swiping three of them. Berggren also went 4 for 6, including the walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning. His two-out line drive to the right-center field gap drove in Stewart from second base for the only earned run of the game.

• The Anchorage Bucs beat the Mat-Su Miners 2-1 Wednesday night at Mulchay Stadium in Anchorage.

The Bucs only needed four hits to top the Miners, who committed two errors and fell out of first place.

Bucs catcher Dominic Piazza went 1 for 3, with one run.

Zach White earned the win, pitching five innings and striking out three.
