AROUND THE HORN
• The Mat-Su Miners took the lead in the fifth inning then put the lead out of reach in the sixth inning, beating the Anchorage Bucs 10-3 on Wednesday night at Mulcahy Stadium.
The Miners batted around in the sixth, scoring six runs on six hits, highlighted by Pablo Bermudez' two two-run triple and Tyler Ruch's two-run double.
The Miners fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, but scored three runs in the top of the fifth when Wesley Thigpen and David Lyon each scored unearned runs and Reagan Moczygemba crossed the plate on Matt Wessinger's sacrifice fly.
The Miner's Bret Schwartz went 3 for 3 and scored one run. Bermudez, Ruch and Wessinger each drove in two runs. Matt Applegate earned the win.
• The Athletes in Action Fire beat the Peninsula Oilers 4-3 at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks on Wednesday.
Fire left fielder Kellen Boxeman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Tyler Bersano won, pitching six innings with three strikeouts.
T.J. swank pitched to three batters for the save.
• The Peninsula Oilers used two home runs from Patrick Wisdom to beat the Fairbanks Goldpanners 7-3 at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks on Wednesday.
Down 3-2 in the fourth inning, the Oiler's Jeff Popick hit a lead-off home run off pitcher Zach Vawter-Scoggins to tie the game at 3-3. Popick went 1 for 4.
Geoff Broussard earned the win, pitching five innings, striking out four.
Derek Grieve lost, allowing three runs over 1 2/3 innings.
