For the first time in three rounds, Brittany Bomar did not post the low score in the women's championship flight, but she nonetheless increased her lead Saturday in the Alaska State Amateur.
Bomar, who will be a senior at the University of Hawaii in the fall, shot a 7-over-par 79 at Eagleglen Golf Course. And although Jamie Berge fired the low women's round with a 78, Bomar's five-stroke lead entering the day expanded to seven strokes.
At 228 through 54 holes, Bomar leads Brianna Nap (235) by seven shots and Berge (236) by eight shots.
Meanwhile, defending champion Casey Cusack's excellence has removed any drama from the men's championship flight -- barring injury or an implausible collapse, he will repeat.
Cusack fired a 3-under 69 to leave him at 14-under par 202, 13 strokes ahead of three-time champion Greg Sanders, who shot a 73.
Benji Sumulong tied Cusack for low round of the day at 69, and sits third, 15 strokes back at 217. Cusack fired the low round of the day in Thursday's opener at Anchorage Golf Course and in Friday's round at Palmer Golf Course.
Cusack is not only the sole golfer in the tournament to shoot under par each round, but also the only one to break par more than once.
The tournament closes today at Moose Run's Creek Course.
