AROUND THE HORN

• Liam Baron threw 5 1/3 innings of no-hit relief and the Fairbanks Goldpanners seized on five Anchorage Bucs errors Tuesday night to earn a 6-4 victory in 11 innings at Mulcahy Stadium.

Baron (4-1) struck out three, and Derek Grieve recorded the last two outs to earn his second save.

The Bucs, coming off a 3-1 win over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on Monday to snap a seven-game losing streak, have made 55 errors in 33 games.

League-leading Fairbanks used Simon Kuternatsch's RBI double and Mike Tauchman's RBI single in the 11th to go ahead for good in a game scheduled for seven innings as part of a double-header.

The teams didn't begin the second game until after 9 p.m.

• Nathan Theunissen blasted an eighth-inning grand slam to help the Peninsula Oilers bury the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, 15-7, at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

Theunissen's bomb came in a six-run inning for the home club, which relegated the Pilots to last place.

The Pilots' O'Koyea Dickson furnished a two-run single in the third inning and Trent Garrison added a two-run double to give the visitors a 6-5 lead. But the Oilers received a two-run single by Ryan Gebhart in the bottom of the inning and Stephen Piscotty generated a run-scoring single to give the Oilers an 8-6 lead.

Peninsula's Taylor Garrison pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief with four strikeouts to earn the win.

• Tonight's Bucs-Goldpanners double-header at Mulcahy celebrates Red Boucher Night to honor the man who founded the Fairbanks Goldpanners and helped launch the ABL.

Legislators Johnny Ellis and Bill Stoltze will present a legislative memoriam to Boucher's family at 5:30 p.m., with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
