Alaska business people

Darren Meznarich, manager of strategy and portfolio management at Conoco Phillips Alaska Inc., has been elected chair of the Alaska Council on Economic Education. The council is a nonprofit educational organization that works with the UAA Center for Economic Education, Alaska businesses, Native corporations and school districts to enhance economic education and awareness in Alaska. The council sponsors economics courses for teachers, provides scholarships, and develops and disseminates classroom teaching materials. Meznarich has served as a member of the board since 2008.

• Custom software development firm Resource Data Inc. has hired new employees for its Anchorage office. Kent Thompson has been hired as a project manager and senior analyst. Thompson is an expert financial analyst with two years' experience in local government affairs, seven years in health care, six years airline-related, and six years in other industries. He has a B.B.A. degree with an emphasis in accounting. Jason Hickerson joins RDI's Anchorage office as a GIS programmer/analyst. Hickerson has extensive experience using all GIS technologies. He also offers programming skills in Visual Basic, C#, and JAVA. Hickerson received his Master of Science degree in geographic information systems from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.

Sam Precie has joined Business Interiors Northwest as a project manager specializing in health care. Sam has managed projects in various industries and disciplines including power generation and distribution, HVAC, telecommunications, IT hardware and software implementations, construction within sensitive hospital environments, and asbestos abatement projects. Precie comes from Providence Health and Services Real Estate Department and holds a bachelor's degree in health care administration

Bang-On Roulet, the Hotel Captain Cook garden manager, has been invited to compete in October in the International Fruit and Vegetable Competition in Meaux, France. One of only 15 invitees to the international food carving competition, Roulet first earned the grand champion title at the 2010 Las Vegas Culinary Competition. She currently specializes in the preparation of salads, dressings, sushi and other cold foods. Food carving became an interest of Roulet's in 2008, when she was inspired by a contest on the Food Channel.
