Police say Rafael Martinez, 43, committed the assault on a woman who called a cab March 19 to take her from a downtown hotel to her east side home. The woman had been drinking at the hotel.
During the ride, she passed out in the back seat, police said. She awoke and found that the cab driver was in the back seat with her and that her underwear was off, police said.
She yelled at the driver, who then got back in the front seat and drove her home. Martinez dropped her off without requesting his fare, police said.
The woman believed she had been sexually assaulted and she reported the incident to the police. Martinez was arrested on charges of second-degree sexual assault. He was booked into the Anchorage Jail, with bail set at $5,000, police said.
