Weight limit imposed on bridge

McCARTHY ROAD -- Employees of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities have completed temporary repairs to the Lakina River Bridge, at Mile 44.3 of the McCarthy Road, the department said Thursday. The repairs improve the structural integrity of the bridge, but the bridge cannot accommodate heavy loads, and vehicle traffic will be limited to vehicles less than 6.000 pounds.

The Lakina River Bridge was damaged earlier this week when a vehicle hit an overhead truss.

Most passenger cars and light duty pickup trucks weigh less than the 6,000-pound limit, according to the department. The weight of a vehicle is listed on the vehicle registration and inside the driver side door.

DOT&PF employees will be stationed at the bridge to monitor the size of loads crossing it.

Restrictions are in place until a repair plan is implemented.
