Calista expands its base with purchase of Brice Inc,

Calista Corp. said it has acquired Brice Inc. and its family of companies, which provide civil construction, marine, environmental, materials and equipment rental services. No purchase price was disclosed.

Brice has offices in Anchorage and Fairbanks, and it has operated worldwide, although its focus has been in Alaska. It was founded in the 1960s, and its original line of work was land clearing, according to its website. The family of companies includes:

• Brice Inc. -- heavy civil and Arctic construction statewide.

• Brice Environmental - civil/environmental remediation and range reclamation services nationwide.

• Brice Marine - ocean and shallow-draft river/coastal marine transportation services worldwide.

• Browns Hill Quarry -- commercial basalt quarry and gravel pit in North Pole.

• Brice Equipment / Volvo Rents -- equipment rental on the North Slope and statewide.

• Brice-Sukakpak JV -- gravel pad with camp and shop at Deadhorse.

Calista is an Anchorage-based regional Native corporation for the Bethel area. It has subsidiaries involved in aerospace and technology services; construction, engineering and telecommunications; hospitality, camp and support services; and marketing and communications.

Calista said the acquisition give the company additional construction capacity while Brice gains access to new capital, operating efficiencies and contracting advantages as a Native-owned business.
