8 candidates file to run for Mat-Su Assembly
OCT. 5: Ballots will include borough, School Board races.

Eight candidates filed for two seats on the Mat-Su Borough Assembly by Friday's 5 p.m. filing deadline, the borough said.

Three of the seven School Board seats also will be on the Mat-Su ballot Oct. 5. Five candidates filed for those seats, the borough said.

Here's a snapshot of the candidates who filed by the deadline:

• Mat-Su Assembly, District 1 -- Warren Keogh, George Rauscher, James Tapley and Bruce Walden.

• Mat-Su Assembly, District 2 -- Thomas Braund, Peter Houston (the incumbent), John Leiner and Noel Woods.

• Mat-Su School Board, Seat C -- Susan Pougher (incumbent).

• Mat-Su School Board, Seat F -- Neal Lacy and Colleen Vague (incumbent).

• Mat-Su School Board, Seat G -- Lynn Gattis and Myrl Thompson (incumbent).

Palmer and Wasilla also will have municipal elections Oct. 5. Here are the candidates in those:

• Palmer mayor -- Kevin Brown (city councilman), Michael Chmielewski (city councilman), Emil Butch Fondahn and DeLena Johnson.

• Palmer City Council (two seats) -- Thomas Braund, Edna Devries, Mike Madar and Katherine Vanover (incumbent).

• Wasilla City Council, Seat D -- Gary W. Hale and Colleen Sullivan-Leonard.

• Wasilla City Council, Seat E -- Michael Carson and Dianne L. Woodruff (incumbent).

• Wasilla City Council, Seat F -- Patrick Brown, Glenda D. Ledford, Steve Menard, David A. Nyberg and Jeff C. Ward.
