Body found near Eagle may be missing Eagle River man

FAIRBANKS -- A body found near the Alaska village of Eagle may be a U.S. customs agent missing for more than a month in an area where roads have been closed since July due to heavy rainfall.

A white sport utility vehicle driven by 56-year-old Charles Collins of Eagle River and registered to Homeland Security was found submerged in O'Brien Creek off the Taylor Highway during heavy flooding.

Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell declared a disaster area last month for stretches of the 160-mile mostly gravel Taylor Highway between the Alaska Highway and Eagle.

Alaska State Troopers told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner the body was being sent to the state medical examiner's office in Anchorage.
