A primary race between three candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Alaska Legislature House District 12 has come down to eight votes in the latest tally.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Eric Feige of Chickaloon, a Bush pilot, is in the lead with 666 votes.

But Don Haase, an instrument and electrical designer from Valdez, has 660 votes and Pete Fellman, a farmer and legislative aide from Delta Junction, has 658 votes.

But the Alaska Division of Elections shows 549 ballots remain to be counted. Most of those ballots, 460, are absentee votes. Eighty-five are questioned ballots and four are early votes.

House District 12 stretches from Eielson Air Force Base to Valdez and extends into the Matanuska-Susitna Borough to the west. It has been represented by Rep. John Harris, R-Valdez, who decided to not run again.
