Rarefied Light opens at museum

The Alaska Photographic Center's annual juried exhibit, Rarefied Light, opened at the Anchorage Museum, 625 C St., with a reception on Friday night. Juror Keith Carter, a fine-art photographer from Texas, has selected 50 photographs from more than 470 submitted. Best of show awards went to Maggie Skiba of Eagle River and Ward Hulbert of Anchorage.

In his juror's statement, Carter said he was looking for images that "represent photography's continued evolvement and passion for life on our small, elegant planet."

Honorable mentions went to Brian Adams, Jay Barrett, Brian Beckwith, Bob Hallinen, Gary Postlethwait, Ryan Romer and Kevin G. Smith.

Rarefied Light is considered the largest fine art photography exhibit of its kind in Alaska. It will remain on display in Anchorage through the end of October, after which it will travel to Fairbanks, Kenai and Cordova.
