A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced Jamal Moss and Rick Strahm to Sitka early Sunday morning. A third man on the 19-foot skiff was not injured in the grounding at Lisianski Inlet.
Coast Guard Lt. Lee Coyle says one of the men, who was unconscious, was later flown to a Seattle hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. The other man was treated at a Sitka hospital. Coyle didn't know which man was taken to Seattle.
Coast Guard officials said a good Samaritan vessel, Shoreline Scow, responded to the grounding and called the Coast Guard late Saturday. An emergency medical technician on board the vessel attended to the injured men until the Coast Guard rescue crew arrived shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
