One victim, Tulati Muaava, 38, of Anchorage, was stabbed several times in the back, and Wilson Echin, 28, of Anchorage was stabbed in the right hand, police said. None of the wounds was life-threatening, police said.
Witnesses told police that a group of males had been going through the campsites attacking campers. Police said they are investigating the stabbing but have not located any suspects yet and are looking for witnesses to explain what the fight was about. Alcohol is suspected to be involved.
Anchorage police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said it did not appear to be a purposeful attack on homeless people in general. He said the fight appeared to be between people who lived at the site, or between them and a visitor who had a beef with someone at the camp.
The homeless camp is near East Third Avenue and Ingra Street, to the north of the former Alaska Native Hospital location.
